ALM Application Lifecycle Management

Applied Integration (AI) have continued to show their strength in the automation and control sector developing their software infrastructure with a six-figure investment in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) software.  After evaluating several market leading ALM solutions over a period of 12 months, Applied Integration’s management and engineering staff agreed on the adoption of Polarion ALM software.

Polarion ALM manages the activities that normally happen when designing, implementing and deploying an engineering project. It involves managing the tasks that are a part of business case definition, requirements development, hardware design, software development, defect management, and testing (among other things). Polarion ALM allows users to look back on what has been done, as well as trace between different tasks, understand what the requirement and what the development task fulfilled, did we run tests against all of our requirements to ensure our project is delivered exactly to the customers specification and is compliant to any given industry standard. The goal is to help breakdown the silos between business, engineering, quality assurance, and the other teams, so that each team has as much information and insight into what the others are doing. This leads to improved development, continuous integration and test automation without compromising the process integrity.  Customer improvements include quality products, faster delivery times and improved business efficiency. Polarion ALM change and configuration management allows us to understand the key questions in everyday life ‘Who, What, When and Why’ of any change.

Features such as Automatic Requirement capture drive the engineering team to understand how they will meet a specific requirement.  This provides a common approach between business, engineering and quality assurance and removed any potential ambiguity when requirements are not defined correctly.  We can verify that the final delivered hardware & software has all of the planned enhancements that are supposed to be included in the release by full traceability modifications up to the change request.

“I believe that the investment in Polarion ALM differentiates us from other companies and propels Applied Integration as a leading supplier of automation and control systems”, says Garry Lofthouse, CEO of Applied Integration. “Polarion provides a unified solution managing project activities, we can see what has been done when, as well as trace differences between tasks, understand the requirement and what the development task fulfilled.  Polarion clearly defines test cases against all of our requirements to ensure our projects are delivered exactly to the customers specification and is compliant to any given industry standard”.

Applied Integration’s mid-term vision is to integrate Polarion ALM with their in-house developed automated testing and test-case generation tool (ReqCap), a very powerful toolset covering all project aspects from initialisation through to automated code testing.

The investment in Polarion ALM software will allow Applied Integration improved requirements capture accuracy, improve project efficiency, right first time.  An overall improvement of the software development was deemed fundamental to support the company growth, ambition and propel Applied Integration to the next level in Automation and Control.  We are fully committed to delivering solutions in accordance with our project lifecycle and quality management procedures, which are backed by ISO9001/14001 accredited certification.
